Food & Sake

Breweries, farms, and the meals built around them

Kochi's sake makers earned more gold medals than any other prefecture at the 2024 U.S. National Sake Appraisal. This itinerary moves through their breweries and beyond — a craft-beer maker, a soy sauce producer still fermenting without added yeast, terraced rice farms, and dinners built around what's just been poured.

Craft

Six ateliers, six centuries of practice

A bonsai garden older than the country's borders. Indigo dyers and umbrella makers in a historic town. A washi studio that supplies architect Kengo Kuma. A mountain forge where guests strike the blade they'll take home. And Garyu Sanso, a nationally protected house and garden, walked with the gardeners who maintain it.

Art Islands

Naoshima, Teshima, and Inujima

Three islands in the Seto Inland Sea, each given over almost entirely to contemporary art. Local guides lead the museums and the outdoor works between them, with visits to further sites in Kagawa on request. Charter boat transfers between islands can be arranged.

Gardens

Landscapes read with the people who keep them

Temple grounds and private gardens, seen at a walking pace. On select visits, a landscape professional joins the group to explain the choices behind the pruning and the placement — the history of the garden and the daily work of maintaining it.

Henro Walking

Sections of the 88-temple pilgrimage

A guided walk along the historic Ohenro route, scaled to the group's fitness, time, and interest. An experienced walking guide sets the pace between temples; overnight stays at temple lodgings (shukubō) are available for groups who want to go further into the practice.

Golf

Courses set against the sea and the mountains

Rounds played against the Seto Inland Sea, the mountains of central Shikoku, and the Pacific coast, built around the region's seasonal food and sake afterward. The number of rounds, sightseeing, and tour length are set entirely by the client.
